CommonWealth magazine editor Bruce Mohl joined Jim Braude
on Broadside on Thursday on New England Cable News to talk about the
three-way tug of war over the state’s probation service. Watch the segment here. Gov. Deval Patrick
wants the probation service moved out of the judiciary and into the executive
branch under his control. The state’s top judges want to keep probation within
the judiciary, but they want more oversight over how probation works. The
Legislature, which has given probation unique autonomy, hasn’t weighed in yet.
CommonWealthmagazine.org has written
extensively about probation lately, including stories on the tug of war, patronage hiring, and a legislative hearing
on the governor’s bill.
